Recipes From the Party

Taking jennythe_reader's idea and putting the recipes up here.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese

* 1 (8 or 9 oz package) macaroni
* 4 tablespoons butter
* 4 tablespoons flour
* 2 cups milk
* ½ teaspoon salt
* 1/8 teaspoon white pepper
* 1 teaspoon grated onion
* ½ lb. Grated American cheese
* 1 cup fine dry bread crumbs
* 4 tablespoons butter

Cook macaroni until tender in boiling salted water. Drain and rinse. Melt butter, add flour and blend. Add milk gradually, stirring constantly. Add salt pepper, grated onion and grated cheese. Pour over macaroni and turn into well-buttered casserole.

Melt the other 4 tablespoons of butter and mix with bread crumbs. Sprinkle the buttered crumbs on top and cover with additional grated cheese (optional). Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 30 minutes. Serves 6

I tend to use either a garlic and herbed cheddar or a mix of sharp and mild cheeses. The main cheese is usually cheddar with smaller portions of Munster, Swiss, Mozzarella and Monteray Jack.

Deviled Eggs

This years Deviled Eggs were a little different. I didn't have any mayonaise in the house and used Blue Cheese Salad dressing instead. In addition I included onion flakes, white pepper and perhaps a touch too much of Lowry Salt.

I compensated for over salting it with judicious use of some sugar, so it was edible, but I'd recommend being careful with the salt.
